How Does Evaporation Cause Cooling?

COOLING EFFECT OF EVAPORATION :-

Evaporation is a surface phenomenon where any liquid can release its molecules in the air by using the surrounding heat or the heat from the liquid itself. ... It is because the water molecules absorb the heat of our body and convert into gas molecules. The heat lost from our skin makes us feel cooler.

During evaporation, the liquid particles having high kinetic energy leave the surface of the liquid and are converted into vapour. As a result the average kinetic energy of the remaining system decreases resulting in decreases in temprature. The particles absorb energy from the surrounding to regain the energy lost, making the surrounding cool.

Example :- On a hot, sunny day or during the summer season when the temperature is high along with the higher rate of evaporation. Here, water gains energy from the air, which gets converted to vapour and makes the air cooler.
